The material Aluminum is commonly known as the greenest metal in the tech industry. This commonly sourced metal is ductile, non-magnetic, and can be infinity recycled without losing its properties. The compound of Aluminum is often found with oxygen and is integral to the Earth's crust. As I did more research on this material I found out that Aluminum is highly toxic to the growth of plants. Yet it is known as the greenest metal. I took inspiration in comparing the toxicity of aluminum with technology distancing us to the outdoors. I created a sculpture displaying the toxicity, using aluminum plates as soil and the fresh flora slowly wilting as time passes. As the head of the flora wilts downward towards the plates, it mimics the way we tilt our heads down towards the screens of our devices. The reflective nature of aluminum invites the viewer to reflect on themselves as they look at the piece.
