Within recent decades, we have embraced technology like no other, our world is constantly connected through the digital empire we have created and built for ourselves. Text Claws places itself into a dystopian future as if the audiences are looking at physical engagement as a foreign concept seen only through archival references or museum spaces. I imagined a world that all human interactions are digital and through the screens of electronic devices. My exploration questions whether technology has distanced us more than bringing people closer. I have taken 8 North American greeting gestures and transforming these actions into sculptures as if they are cultural relics. The gallery builds an added layer of tension as it is often prohibited to touch the works, mirroring the loss of these physical exchanges. The piece also incorporates this dash of oddities for each gesture to recreate some sort of social anxiety in real-life situations as digital engagement becomes the norm.
